TRAINING AND BSL IN THE CANARY ISLANDS

I just received an e-mail from a  North American friend in whom he asks me if  is truth that in the Canary Islands is prohibited to work the dogs in defense and attacks. My answer is no. The professional and non professional trainers, we continued working like before  the promulgated law against potentially dangerous dogs (like is know in Spain de BSL) . Yes is true  that now guard dogs cannot be trained in  defense and attack in the public thoroughfare, since they were doing some improvised domiciliary trainers, that much have proliferated lately.

This mean  that the breeders of Perro de Presa Canario  can continue selecting by functionality their units. Who does not do it is because does not want. It seems to me opportune to say once again that in the Canary Islands, just like outside the Canary Islands, the immense majority of the breeders of presa Canario has focused their breed and selection thinking about the exhibitions of beauty, just like  has happened with the rest of the canine breeds anywhere in the world. This reality is not new respect to the Perro de Presa Canario, who reads the articles of my web site will notice that it is thus, reality this one that I have not stopped to denounce, because it is an unquestionable fact that this type of cinofilia, harms excessively, under all points of view, the psychic and physical quality of the canine breeds, that breed and select only for that aim, the  shows of beauty.

 I do not get tired to say, and to write, that the Perro de Presa Canario  has assured the future if it is breed  and select thinking about its real functionality. I already say, most of the breeders they breed and they select thinking almost exclusively about the exhibitions of beauty, an to  this, I call it, the  easy cinofilia-.

 But there are (also) the breeders, that we worries, upon any other  consideration, the useful dog, and we understand the  Prerro de Presa Canario  as a dog of guard, defense, and attack, and for those necessities we breed  and we select them.

 Against  the prohibitions that lately have proliferated like fungi in all the countries (in certain way, only in certain way, and until certain point, justified), I must say that the dogs of guard, defense, and attack are as old as the civilizations, and so necessary as the food that we ingested every day. The delinquency is not a mirage, it is a real fact.  And the dogs of guard and defense are  the only alternative with which the citizen counts to defend his properties of these predators. We are not going to analyze here due why reasons  our societies generate such amount of delinquents, there are experts in the matter that do it every day.

 The laws by means the political powers try to regulate the possession of potentially dangerous dogs, the prohibitions, etc., lack logic, and therefore of sense. Accidents of vehicles, maritime, aerial, etc., due any  reason, will happen  while the humanity makes use of the automobiles, the boats, the airplanes; women assassinated by their husbands, companions, or sick rapist, pederasts, assassins on salary, judges that are sold, countries that sell arms underground to other countries (most of the times underdeveloped) so that they fight with their  neighbors, or towards others, powerful nations that dig the policy and the economy of other weaker nations (by well-known interests), or cause coup d'etats, there have  been  them always  and will always continue being. The damages derived from these aberrations, yes are terrible for a good part of the humanity.

 In short, I want to say, or to give to understand, that crazies, or irresponsibles with dog, there will be them always, and dogs that bite, and in some cases that kill. But  not due that, is  necessary to put to all the citizens who acquire dogs to enjoy them, or for the  guard and defense of their  properties,  under controls that  have more  to do with the inquisitorial methods of last centuries that with the democratic freedom, of which as much they boast all the governments of the occidental countries in which such  laws have been promulgated.

 I do not imagine appearing to a psycho-technic  test to all the men and women who aspire to be united in marriage with the purpose of  preventing the aggressions that suffer, sometimes with result of death, many women on the part of their husbands, companions, fiancès, etc.  

Laws yes, that regulates the possession of animals, of any type, but that retires, in all the countries, that of  POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS or PROHIBITED DOGS.  Dangerous they are most of the politicians, of the governments, the paramilitary and military, the police, the bankers, the religious fundamentalists of any religion (that not only exist fundamentalist Islamic), and not few citizens by  foot or by horse that never has had nor will have dog, but has arms to kill with or without license.

The breeders of dogs, the trainers of dogs, saving the USUAL exceptions, we are normal people that works to gain the sustenance  legally, and that without a doubt we fill a  social function  very important.  It don’t need more than  see all the economic activity that moves around the dog. The world of the dog is a very important economic sector, that generates much wealth, and that allows to live honestly to hundreds of thousands of families anywhere in the world, mainly in our occidentals countries.

With the promulgation of the laws against  potentially dangerous dogs, the only thing that have obtained the genius ones that they had to do with this history is to harm the sector excessively, aside from trimming a little more the liberties of all the humans that in one or another way we have to do with the dogs.
